Steve Biko (Born 12/18/1946- Assassinated 9/12/1977) was a South African Anti Apartheid activist, an African Nationalist and Socialist.  He was at the forefront of the grassroots anti apartheid campaign known as the “Black consciousness movement” in the 1960s and 70s. He is regarded as a father of Black consciousness and a Martyr of the Anti Apartheid movement. His life was made into a 1987 movie called “Cry Freedom” with Denzel Washington starring as Biko.
