SONNY LISTON (1932?-1970)

On this day, May 8th, 1932 Boxing Legend Sonny Liston was born. Born Charles L. Liston “Sonny” was a Professional Boxer who competed from 1953 to 1970. He became Heavyweight champion in 1962 after knocking out Floyd Patterson in the first round.

Widely regarded as unbeatable the intimidating Liston, who was known for his toughness and punching power was defeated by Muhammad Ali in 1964  then known as “Cassius Clay”. Liston remained a world ranked Heavyweight up until his death six years later in 1970.

Ring Magazine ranks Sonny Liston Seventh Greatest Heavyweight of All Time.
