FRITZ POLLARD, 1ST BLACK NFL PLAYER

On this day, September 18th, 1919, Fritz Pollard becomes the 1st African American to play professional football as a halfback for the Akron Indians.

The former chemistry major at Brown university was also the 1st African American to play football at the university and was the 1st African American to play in the Rose Bowl

Although Pollard played for many teams in the NFL he served duel purposes on the Akron Indians playing halfback and serving as assistant coach at the same time.
