ERNIE BANKS: MEDAL OF FREEDOM

On this day November 20th, 2013 Baseball legend Ernest Banks was awarded the “Presidential Medal of Freedom” the nations highest civilian honor by President. Barack Obama.

In 1953 Banks became the first Black player on the Chicago Cubs and over an 18 year career became an 11 time All Star and MVP in 1958, and 1959.

After retiring he became the Cubs coach and was inducted into the Baseball hall of Fame in 1977. The “Ernie Banks Live Above & Beyond Foundation” works to promote social welfare and improve the capabilities of children & Seniors in underprivileged neighborhoods. Banks died in 2015.
