ADAM CLAYTON POWELL Jr.

On this day November 29th we celebrate the birth of congressman Adam Clayton Powell Jr.  Powell was a Baptist minister and politician for the Democratic party representing Harlem, NYC serving from 1945-1971 being re elected meny times. He also was the 1st African American elected to congress. He served as national spokesman for civil rights and social issues and also urged the United States support for emerging African and Asian nations as they gained independence.
