To me image is everything, especially when it comes to the imagery presented to children throughout the day.  That image or images projected dictates how the children sees themselves now and in the future. A “Black” superman is always special to see because the character has alot in common with the average black male:

The story of Kal El who uses his character “Clark Kent” to live a normal life hiding his secret identity and abilities.

Superman gaining his power and energy from the sun.

Fights for a people that glorifys his gifts yet disrepects his attempts of humanity.

Greatest enemy is an all powerful white man.

Its only fitting that Superman would be a Blackman
