BOB DOUGLAS, “FATHER OF BLACK PRO BASKETBALL”

On this day February 5th, 1972, Robert Douglas the founder of amateur team The New York Renaissance a.k.a. “The Big Five” or “The Rens” was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport. The Rens, originally from Harlem traveled all around the country playing any willing team. Their efforts showcased the natural talent that would make Blacks dominate the sport.
