5x Pro Bowler and Superbowl XLVIII Champ former running back Marshawn Lynch is set to co own a New team in Oakland called the “Oakland Panthers”

The team, which is an indoor arena football team is a nod to Oakland’s Black Panther Party movement of the late 1960s and 70s. With the Raiders moving to Las Vegas next season Lynch wanted to make sure his hometown wasn’t left without a football team.

Initially Lynch had no interest in arena football and hoped to play for the Raiders one last time before the move to Vegas. It wasn’t until speaking with the owner of his younger brother’s team the “Nebraska Dangers” that drew his attention to ownership and what a team with a name representing a powerful moment in black history could mean to the city.
